On the eastern side of beautiful Andalusia, Almería is one of the sunniest regions of Spain. It basks in temperatures that rarely dip below the 30°s in summers, or see frost in winter. Thankfully, it has over 200 kilometres of coastline for you to enjoy its glorious sunshine from. Property for sale in Almería comes in all shapes and sizes, from cave homes hewn from the rock, to sensational new builds just that bit cheaper than the more established coasts.

On the south-eastern coast of Spain, lapped by the sparkling Mediterranean Sea, Almería is the perfect location for beach lovers, and those with slightly smaller budgets.
The city of Almería has 200,000 people; about the same population as Brighton and, some might say, with a similarly alternative vibe. But it’s also a province, Andalusia’s most easterly, of around 9,000 square kilometres, making it a similar size to Suffolk and Norfolk combined.
It also gives its name to the Costa Almería, which is where Spain’s southern coast turns the corner and joins the Costa Cálida. From May through to September enjoy temperatures in the high 20s at the very least. August is the hottest month with temperatures nearly always hitting 30° and not a drop of rain. October cools to the lower 20s. Between November and April, average maximums reach 16°C to 19°C, albeit with an increase in rain, like an English summers day. Expect agreeable sunbathing, golfing or walking temperatures all year round.
Almería has many unspoiled beaches of virgin sands. But there is more to Almería than just being a beach destination. With any property for sale in Almería, there will be lots to experience just outside your door. Almería is home to the semi-arid Tabernas Desert. Not only is it beautiful, but it also serves as Spain’s answer to Hollywood. It is here that Clint Eastwood got his big break in films like A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. Enjoy a guided hiking walks, “in the footsteps of Clint Eastwood” or visit the set of Fort Bravo.
Almería’s western end joins the Sierra Nevada mountain range, offering skiing in winter. It is also close to the beautiful walking country of the Alpujarras, made famous by Christ Stewart’s Driving Over Lemons books.
Almería is easy to get to from the UK, with flights running to Almería airport throughout the year in two hours and forty minutes from England. The airport is well-connected with public transport routes to get you to your property in Almería.
Almería was among the last of Spain’s southern coasts and property for sale in Almería will often be more traditional. Such as cave homes – which built to be cool in summer and warm in winter. There are large countryside homes, including old farmhouses, mills and barns to convert, at a fraction of what you might pay in the UK.
Almería has not seen the mass tourism that other regions of Spain have, such as Benidorm. Indeed, the interior can feel quite wild, despite being just a couple of hours drive to hotspots like Mojácar or Vera Playa (famous for its naturist beaches). Consequently, wonderful sun-soaked homes are a little more affordable than the Costa Blanca and Costa del Sol, especially properties that lie somewhere between being old and key-ready.
Nearer the beach will be more expensive, but few places in Almería are more than an hour or two from the sea. At the other end of the spectrum of property for sale in Almería, you can find impressive new-build apartments and villas that have access to a private pool, are a minutes’ away from the beach, golf courses and resorts. There are also resorts, such as Desert Springs, near Almanzora.
