You can rent a car in Barcelona and begin a tour of the Penedès area. And you can take this opportunity to visit the monastery of Montserrat.

Penedès wine and cava route The Penedès area comprises the counties of Alt Penedès, Anoia, Baix Llobregat, Baix Penedès and Garraf, in the latter region is the famous town of Sitges, which probably you have heard of. If you come in early March, you can make the most out of your visit by attending Carnival in Sitges, where the fun is guaranteed.

Sightseeing in the Penedès route VINSEUM. This is the Museum of Wine Culture in Catalonia, and is in Vilafranca del Penedès, right in the center of the city. The museum exhibits works of art and archaeological, geological, paleontological items as well as an exhibition on the history and the processes that transform grapes into other products, like wine.

At this museum is also possible to purchase products, taste wines and, subject to reservation, attend a wine tasting course. (Plaça Jaume I, No. 5, 08720, Vilafranca del Penedès). Castles. The area has several medieval castles, though not all of them can be entered by foot, but that are worth watching from outside and you ll find it quite an experience, such as the Castell de Penyafort, located in the town of Santa Margarida i Els Monjos, about an hour from Barcelona.

This medieval castle is at the entrance to the Parc del Foix, a fabulous natural reservation. The Mediona castle in the village Mediona, is a ruined castle, but that can be visited. The Castle of Gelida, in the village of Gelida, can also be visited and there s the castle of Castelldefels, just a few minutes from Barcelona.
