Puglia, also known as Apulia, is a southern region in Italy known for its whitewashed-hill towns, farmlands and olive oil production. Puglia has the longest coastline of any other mainland region in Italy and borders three seas – the Adriatic, Ionian and Gulf of Taranto. 

Weather in Puglia is divine, especially if you like hot and sunny summers. Winters are rather mild, with a drizzling of rain here and there. Due to its location, Puglia is one of Italy’s hottest and driest regions in summer and it’s known to see temperatures reach a scorching 40°C.

Other Puglian delights are the almond, cherry blossom and fruit trees, which you will often find growing in your own garden. Inland the landscape rises, creating panoramic views across olive groves towards the coast.

Trulli is a property type famous in Puglia and is a typical dry-stone building with conical rooves. They’re particularly widespread in the Itria Valley, particularly in Alberobello. 

Other popular areas in Puglia include Monopoli, Brindisi, Ostuni and Lecce. Each is different in its own way but each one offers traditional Italian living, surrounded by stunning landscapes. Apartments in Puglia are available from €55,000 (studio), townhouses are available from €150,000 and countryside villas vary in price depending on location and condition. It is possible to buy a simple two-bedroom villa for €65,000, but three-bedroom villas with a pool start from €250,000.
