Pays de la Loire literally translates as Loire country, which couldn’t be more apt as the region is split in two by the Loire River, the longest river in France.

The Loire River gives its name to five other departments, which explains for the common confusion between Pays de la Loire and Loire Valley. The latter is a UNESCO valley in the middle stretch of the river in both the Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire regions.

Mayenne is another popular area in Pays de la Loire. Homes in Mayenne are typically more affordable and its villages are full of character. The region is well connected both within France and internationally. Nantes Airport has direct flights to and from the UK for as little as £XX and there are TGV trains running between Nantes and Paris in just under two and a half hours.
